Follow up
The potential for a prosperous vegetable industry exists, but it will be a long haul. Urbanization, population growth and declining natural resources will lead to an urgent need in increasing the output per area. An eye-opener during TVSP was that farmers are willing to invest, e.g. buying expensive hybrid seeds, once they are sure about the production.
The three involved companies will continue their efforts, firstly by establishing local production of the necessary improved OP quality seeds and secondly by setting up a long-term market-oriented breeding program for East-Africa.
